Bionic Ear | The Black Box Flight Recorder | Penicillin | Gene Shears | Royal Flying Doctor Service

 Invented: 1979

Inventor: Graeme Clark

In 1979 Professor Graeme Clark and his colleagues at the University if Melbourne invented the Bionic Ear or also known as the Cochlear Implant. About one hundred and twenty one million people suffer from deafness around the world. Only twenty four thousand people from fifty different countries have received hearing aids. At least three from one thousand babies are born with some sort of deafness. Without surgery or the Bionic ear deaf people may have never heard. Hopefully more people will receive a Cochlear Implant.
